Disney’s Marvel and Netflix have teamed up to bring viewers four live action 13-episode series based on Marvel characters culminating in an epic miniseries event. The characters to be spotlighted are Daredevil, followed by Jessica Jones, Iron Fist and Luke Cage. The series will roll out over multiple years with the most recognizable character, Daredevil, up first.

All of the series will be set against the backdrop of Hell’s Kitchen, New York where villains and heroes alike dwell. The four primary series will lead up to a miniseries event where all of the heroes come together entitled The Defenders.

“This deal is unparalleled in its scope and size, and reinforces our commitment to deliver Marvel’s brand, content and characters across all platforms of storytelling. Netflix offers an incredible platform for the kind of rich storytelling that is Marvel’s specialty,” said Alan Fine, President of Marvel Entertainment. “This serialized epic expands the narrative possibilities of on-demand television and gives fans the flexibility to immerse themselves how and when they want in what’s sure to be a thrilling and engaging adventure.”

Daredevil will kick things off in 2015. The blind hero/lawyer was the focus of a 2003 film starring Ben Affleck, but the character is now back in Marvel’s hands and will be rebooted for the new series. Jessica Jones is an ex-hero who goes on to be a private investigator and journalist. Iron Fist is a martial arts hero and the son of a powerful superhero. Finally Luke Cage is a hero-for-hire with impervious skin. Which character’s series are you the most excited about seeing? What do you think of Netflix and Marvel’s partnership?
