The ‘Challenger Disaster’ Premiere Date Announced by the Science Channel and Discovery Channel

The Science Channel and the Discovery Channel will air the Challenger Disaster in a simultaneous telecast on Nov. 16 at 9 p.m. est. The special presentation will delve into the story of the daring and determined Nobel Prize-winning scientist Dr. Richard Feynman and his mission to uncover the mysterious explosion of the Challenger in 1986. The TV Movie is inspired by Feynman’s book “What Do You Care What Other People Think?”

William Hurt will star in the lead role of Dr. Feynman with a cast ensemble that includes actor Bruce Greenwood set to play U.S. Air Force General Donald Kutyna, Brian Dennehy as Chairman of the Presidential Commission, William Rogers, Joanne Whalley in the role of Feynman’s wife Gweneth, and Eve Best as astronaut Sally Ride.

BBC’s Mark Hedgecoe (Rome: The Rise And Fall Of An Empire) and Cassian Harrison (Earthflight) are executive producers behind the ‘Challenger’ along with Laurie Borg (Great Expectations) as producer. The special was directed by James Hawes (Doctor Who) with a script from screenplay writer Kate Gartside (Lark Rise To Candleford). The Science Channel’s Rocky Collins (Alien Encounters) is also credited as an executive producer on the project.
