Nashville Season 2 Review “It Must Be You”

Nashville Season 2 Episode 6 It Must Be You (8)

In a spectacular demonstration of backtracking on this week’s Nashville, we’ve now gone back to the beginning of the Gunnar/Scarlett/Avery problem, Juliette has returned to making unwise decisions about guys and Rayna and Deacon are both pursuing other relationships. The latter isn’t an issue given what happened to them over the summer, but having both Scarlett and Juliette regress is a little disappointing.

As has been the case for most of the year, most of the action took place at a fabulous party with fabulous outfits – this time a polo match at which Juliette and Charlie reconnect and Rayna went fishing for funding following her father’s arrest. It seemed like a bit of a stretch that every single character would end up at a polo match none of them had any interest in attending but, hey ho, this is television.

Juliette and Charlie’s relationship is very disappointing but not the least bit surprising given the way the Nashville writers seem intent on derailing her character as soon as we get a glimpse of redemption. I talked last week about how having new villains like Layla on the scene would free the show up in regards to Juliette and her character development, so hopefully this episode was a blip in that plan. Sleeping with Charlie and getting caught, however, suggests otherwise.

It also puts a stop to the promising romance between her and Avery, and the door is closed even further by his reconciliation with Scarlett. Does anyone want to see this? I was enjoying seeing Avery work with Gunnar and Scarlett strike out on her own, but this is just the resurgence of the love triangle with an extra point in Zoe. This is too complicated to end happy for everyone, and I vote for the unhappy party to be her – sleeping with your best friend’s ex is never okay.
