‘Dexter’ Slices His Way Onto Netflix in Time for Halloween

Dexter Morgan’s story of a serial killer with a heart of…well less evil than one would expect for a serial killer, came to an end on Showtime this year after eight seasons. That was the end of Dexter‘s tale, but for those who prefer to bingewatch television (and perhaps have cut their cable cord), they can relive every visit from Dexter’s dark passenger again on Netflix beginning this Halloween, Thursday, October 31st.

Although Showtime has their own streaming service available to subscribers, the channel’s parent company, CBS Corporation struck a deal with streaming giant Netflix to provide Dex with a new home. Seasons one through four will be available to watch instantly on Halloween. Seasons five through eight will follow on January 1st, 2014. It’s a rare deal in an age when premium content providers like HBO and Showtime are increasingly reserving their series for their own exclusive streaming sites.

“We’re thrilled to have ‘Dexter,’ one of SHOWTIME’s highest-rated shows on Netflix, and so quickly after it completed its record-breaking run,” said Ted Sarandos, Chief Content Officer for Netflix in a statement. “This is one of the great serialized dramas of the past decade and we know our members will enjoy discovering or reliving the twisted world of Dexter Morgan anywhere and anytime they want.”

Dexter stars Michael C. Hall as a forensic blood spatter analyst/family man by day and a serial killer by night. Are you excited Showtime’s signature series is coming to Netflix? (Especially in time for Halloween?)
