White Collar Season 5 Premiere 2013 Advance Review “At What Price” – Orange is the New Suit

White Collar Season 5 Episode 1 At What Price (4)

In the White Collar Season 5 premiere, called “At What Price,” Peter is the one in jail and this time it’s up to Neal to figure out a way to get him out.

Orange is the New Suit

When last we saw our favorite duo, Peter had just been arrested for a murder that Neal’s father committed. The episode picks up mostly where the Season 4 finale left off and we get to see Peter in an orange jumpsuit this time. It was a real trip to see Peter out of his normal uniform of a dapper suit and when Neal goes to visit him in prison, I felt like I was watching the pilot episode with my TV flipped upside down or something. There is a definite dynamic shift that happens when Peter is the one under guard, unshaven and in a the jumpsuit. It’s disconcerting but also extremely fascinating and it almost made me wish that we could see Peter that way for an entire season.

Time is Relative

Another thing you should know about this episode is that it plays around a lot with time. There are scenes where big chunks of time have passed and others where it feels like the episode is running in real time. With all that does happen in the premiere, I thought that it was maybe longer than a normal episode. When I got to the end, I expected to see that a lot more time had passed than usual, but it was a standard amount. Expect a lot of stuff to happen in those 40- plus minutes.

Can Neal Save the Day?

I know that this is undoubtedly the question that everyone wants to have answered about this episode, but come on now, you know I can’t give that bit of information away. I will say that Neal will do anything it takes to get his friend out of the situation he is in, up to and including making deals with people that he shouldn’t be making deals with and lying to people that he shouldn’t be lying to. When all is said and done, Neal will find himself in what I think will be his most challenging situation yet. If you think that you’ve seen Neal and Peter’s relationship tested, I’m here to say that you haven’t seen anything yet.

Ch-Ch-Changes

Even though I can’t say whether or not Neal manages to clear Peter’s name and get his friend out of prison in the premiere, I can say that by the end of the episode a lot will change for nearly everyone. The changes for Peter and Neal are significant and will involve an entire shift in both of their lives. By the end of the episode, not only will both of them have changed from the beginning of the episode, but they will each find themselves in a situation that we haven’t seen from either of them in this series.

Needless to say, this is going to be a pretty significant episode and the premiere puts into motion things that will undoubtedly shape where the story will go for the rest of the season. All I can say is: Hang on to your hats!

The White Collar Season 5 premiere airs on Wednesday at 9pm on USA. Once you’ve seen the episode, come back up here and let me know what thought of it. I love hearing from you guys!
