Fox Orders Unscripted Comedy ‘Slide Show’ From Steve Carell

Could the variety show be making a comeback?

First NBC had a summer hit with Hollywood Game Night, and now Fox has greenlit eight episodes of Slide Show, a non-scripted comedy series from Steve Carell (The Office) and Shine America Features. Adapted from a French format, Slide Show will feature two teams of America’s funniest comedians and actors facing off in a series of showdowns designed to test both their minds and bodies. Improv skills will reign supreme as the participants must come up with sketches and participate in song and dance challenges all while standing on a set tilted at a 22.5 degree angle (hence Slide Show).

“I think unscripted television should be outrageous and audacious by definition. Unfortunately, not much is, as of late,” said Kevin Reilly, Chairman of Entertainment, Fox Broadcasting Company in a statement. “SLIDE SHOW is the most ridiculously fun and out-there thing I’ve seen in quite a while. Steve Carell knows a thing or two about big laughs and I am really happy to be working with Steve again, and the team at Shine, to bring SLIDE SHOW to FOX.”

Carell added, “Comedy is subjective,” added Carell. “But if you don’t find SLIDE SHOW to be funny and enormously entertaining, then you will never be my friend.”

There is no word yet on when Slide Show will debut, but has the concept caught your attention?
