Sherlock’s Martin Freeman Set to Star in FX’s ‘Fargo’

Martin Freeman is heading to Fargo.

The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Freeman, best known for his roles as John Watson in BBC’s Sherlock and as Tim on the original The Office, has been tapped to play Lester Nygaard in FX’s upcoming 10-part miniseries adaptation of the 1996 film Fargo. William H. Macy (Shameless) played the character in the film version.

Lester is a downtrodden insurance salesman whose wife is constantly criticizing him, but his entire life will change when a mystery man, played by Billy Bob Thornton, comes to town. While the miniseries will draw from the original film, it is set to explore a brand new “true crime” case. Meanwhile, the film’s directors Joel and Ethan Coen are on board the project as producers.

Freeman has proven to be very in-demand as of late. In addition to the upcoming Sherlock season three, he is also committed to star as the lead in all three of Peter Jackson’s Hobbit films.

Do you think Freeman will play the role as well as Macy?

Production on Fargo is set to begin this October for a projected Spring 2014 debut.
