NBC Developing Mini-Series on Iconic ‘Tonight Show’ Host Johnny Carson

Johnny Carson

Based on the upcoming biography ‘Carson the Magnificent’ by Bill Zehme, a new mini-series from NBC is in the development stages, focusing on iconic TV host Johnny Carson, who presided over the popular, long-running night time talk show ‘The Tonight Show’ for 30 years (from 1962 to 1992).

The project will not only cover his legendary career but also examine his childhood growing up in Nebraska, his often secluded off-camera life and the friendships he made throughout his career as one of the most beloved TV personalities of all time. During his time as host of ‘The Tonight Show’, Carson interviewed more than 22,000 guests and is revered by today’s talk show hosts as a huge inspiration.

This as-yet untitled project will be executive produced by Zehme, who was one of the few journalists to have had access to Carson, and Emmy nominated John Davies.

Casting for the iconic star will be named at a later date.
