ABC Developing Limited Event Series ‘Esmeralda’

It has been almost 20 years since the Disney animated feature ‘The Hunchback of Notre Dame’ hit multiplexes across the country, but better late than never, right? What do I mean by that, you may ask? Well, it would seem that Disney is going to take another look at the tale by Victor Hugo only this time on the small screen.

According to a report at Deadline, ABC is putting into development a limited event series to be called Esmeralda that will be a period drama take a look at the classic story only this time through the eyes of the beautiful Gypsy Esmeralda herself.

The project will be written by Evan Daugherty, who co-wrote last summer’s feature film ‘Snow White And The Huntsman’ that starred ‘Twilight’ “queen” Kristen Stewart and hottie Chris Hemsworth in the classic tale. ABC Studios and Mandeville Films will produce ‘Esmeralda’ with Daugherty serving as executive producer alongside David Hoberman, Todd Lieberman and Laurie Zaks.

The hot new “thing” in the entertainment world is the limited event series (formerly known as the made-for-TV mini-series) and ‘Esmeralda’ is just another in the many that are being planned by broadcast and cable networks alike.

Since it is too early in the planning stages, it is unknown who will be cast in any of the lead roles or whether this limited event series will even make it to the small screen on ABC or not.
