‘Big Brother’ Season 16 Announced by CBS

CBS has renewed Big Brother for a 16th season the network has announced with plans to roll out the new edition in the summer of 2014. The news comes as the popular reality series will air its last episode of the 15th season on Sept. 18 in a 90-minute finale. The final three house guests, Andy Herren, GinaMarie Zimmerman and Spencer Clawson, are scheduled to compete for the $500,000 prize.

The season ender will air at 9:30 p.m. after CBS unveils the season premiere of ‘Survivor’. ‘Big Brother: After Dark’ has also been handed a renewal for a second season set to air on the basic cable network, TVGN, next summer.

The pick-up doesn’t come as a surprise. The long running interactive series attracted an average of 7.29 million viewers within the 18-49 (2.6 million) demographic, as well as viewers ages 25-54 (3.1 million). ‘Big Brother’ is executive produced by Emmy Award-winning producer Allison Grodner and Rich Meehan of Fly on the Wall Entertainment, in association with Endemol USA.
