Covert Affairs Season 4 Review “Hang Wire” – The Cost of Secrets

Covert Affairs Season 4 Episode 9 Hang Wire (7)
In this episode of Covert Affairs, we learn what Henry wanted with the missiles, the mystery of Calder deepens, Annie and Auggie don’t spend any time together and Arthur discovers the ultimate price of his secrets.

Poor Teo. I had a feeling he could end up losing his life. Wwhen he was being wheeled into the operating room – with his father promising him that there would be a job waiting for him in D.C. and that they would spend time together – there was never any doubt that he wouldn’t make it. Earlier in the episode, when Arthur was talking to the lawyer about the reasons why he wanted to admit to everything, he said that too many people had suffered too much because of his secrets and it’s sad to think that Teo was the one that suffered the most of all. Poor Teo never had a real father in his life, lost his mother and then was raised like a warrior so that he could spend his entire adulthood under cover. I have a feeling this loss is going to hit Arthur hard and we may see him stop playing defense against Henry and start playing a little offense. It makes me wonder what might happen if Arthur decides to go after Henry instead of keeping away from him.

Henry’s plan with the helicopter may have worked in the short term, but I’m thinking they’re going to get him in the end. He’s brought too much trouble to our team and now, with Teo’s death, things are about to get serious. One thing that I found extremely interesting was Calder’s part in this episode. By not taking Auggie into official custody and instead seeking the truth, can we assume that Calder is not working for Henry? It’s certainly starting to look that way, but it could also be one heck of a trick on his part.

We didn’t see a lot of interaction between Auggie and Annie in this episode, but there was enough to suggest that Auggie at least is definitely reconsidering his previous choice to stay apart. His suggestion that they go to the Galapagos was incredibly sweet, but seeing how their lives have been going recently, it’s doubtful that would happen any time soon. When everything is over, could they possibly have the chance to be alone and figure out where they stand without the pressure of the job hanging over them? Even if they do, will they be able to avoid the same trouble they got into the first time. My vote is for them to give it a go, but I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

My favorite bits..

“We’ve got to find a way to stop this cycle.”

“It’s costing too many people too much to keep my secrets.”

Annie taking Teo’s advice and taking better aim at him with her gun.

“It would have been nice to have met you at a different time.”

Teo jumping off the roof. Whoa.

Auggie calling bullshit on Calder. Loved it.

“The only agenda I have here is the truth.”
“Prove it.”

Totally knowing Henry would be waiting outside when Annie got released.

“You don’t trust me?”
“Not. Even. A. Little.”

Henry pointing out that Annie always leads with her heart and not her head. I hate it when that man is right.

Joan threatening to toss Calder out of the agency on his ass.

Finally figuring out what Henry wanted with the missile.

The helicopter and the cars and… and… HOLY COW!

Auggie changing his shirt in the middle of the office. There was so much awesome in that scene: the shirtlessness (duh), the fact that he didn’t care one whit that he was doing it in the office, and the fact that he was desperately trying to get hold off Annie while he did it.

Teo remembering the time he spent with his mother and Arthur on the beach.

Arthur telling Teo that he would find something for him in D.C. Oh man, if that’s not a sign that Teo is going to die, I don’t know what is.

The fact that Auggie knew exactly which satellites could see them in the Galapagos.

Realizing that calling Teo’s death didn’t make me feel any better when it happened.
