Hallmark’s ‘When Calls the Heart’ Premiere Date Announced with Arrow’s Stephen Amell & Lost’s Maggie Grace

When Calls the Heart #2

The Hallmark Channel announced the premiere date of its upcoming two-hour extended pilot When Calls the Heart for October 5 at 9/8c. This pilot is the second scripted project for the network that will debut as a full-fledged series in January 2014.

Based on the popular Canadian West book series by best-selling author Janette Oke, the two-hour ‘When Calls the Heart’ movie will focus on Elizabeth Thatcher (played by newcomer Poppy Drayton), a high society woman in 1910, who receives a teaching assignment in Coal Valley, a dangerous town in the Western Territory of Canada, far from the comforts of her Toronto home and her tight-knit family. Wanting to prove she can handle the job, she finds inspiration and hope in her late aunt’s secret diary, detailing her own trials as a school teacher in the frontier and putting her trust in a handsome Canadian Mountie, which will end up mirroring young Elizabeth’s own circumstances.

The cast of the two-hour movie will include Maggie Grace (‘Lost’) as Aunt Elizabeth and Stephen Amell (‘Arrow’) as Wynn Delaney, the Canadian Mountie from Aunt Elizabeth’s diary; Lori Loughlin (‘Full House’) will play Abigail Stanton and Jean Smart (‘Designing Women’) will play Frances Tunnelcliffe, both strong coal miner widows in Coal Valley where young Elizabeth (Drayton) finds her teaching position. Daniel Sharman (‘Teen Wolf’) will play Canadian Mountie Edward Montclair.

The TV series version of ‘When Calls the Heart’ will find the role of Elizabeth Thatcher portrayed by ‘Army Wives’ alum Erin Krakow and ‘Last Resort’ actor Daniel Lissing will play Jack Thornton, the new constable in Coal Valley. Smart and Loughlin have the possibility of reprising their roles when the series debuts in January.

The two-hour extended pilot ‘When Calls the Heart’ is a Believe Pictures, Jordan Films and Brad Krevoy Television production. Brad Krevoy, Brian Bird, Michael Landon, Jr., Roman Viaris, Francisco Gonzalez and Jimmy Townsend serve as executive producers, with Michael Landon, Jr. being the writer and director.

The TV series ‘When Calls the Heart’ will film this summer in Telluride, Colorado and is also a Believe Pictures and Brad Krevoy Television production with Krevoy, Bird, Landon, Gonzalez and Townsend serving as executive producers.

‘When Calls the Heart’ (the movie) will, again, air on the Hallmark Channel on October 5 at 9/8c with the TV series set to debut in January 2014.
