Covert Affairs Season 4 Review “Into the White” – Is Teo an Enemy or an Ally?

Covert Affairs Season 4 Episode 3 Into the White (1)

In this episode of Cover Affairs, called “Into the White,” Annie goes after Teo to determine if he is the enemy he appears to be or the ally that he could be, meanwhile Joan gets an offer she can’t refuse.

With all the mystery and intrigue and spy stuff happening in this show, you’d think I’d have something more important on my mind right out of the gate than Auggie and Annie’s relationship. But that is where you would be wrong. I can’t help it, I feel like we waited so long for them to get together and now that they are, I just love seeing what their romantic relationship is doing for their working relationship.

This episode saw Auggie and Annie truly back in their roles as agent and handler and Auggie was definitely having a rough time with it. Especially when his role meant that Arthur was asking him to keep secrets from Annie. I found the scene where Auggie confronted Arthur very enlightening. Auggie told Arthur never to ask him to keep Annie out of the loop again and though he denied that it had anything to do with the fact that she is now his girlfriend, I’m afraid I’m going to have to disagree. Wouldn’t being a handler require you to sometimes keep things from your agent? It seems to me the agency is built on “need to know” and there’s always people doing things who don’t really know why. I think that Auggie’s feelings for Annie are definitely affecting his mindset on the job (though I can’t decide if that’s a bad thing or not yet), while – interestingly enough – Annie seems to be doing her job just as she always has. Of the two, Annie is doing a better job at keeping her personal life separate from her working one. Perhaps her past experiences mixing romance with a mission have taught her some lessons.

As for the rest of the episode, I loved how Joan took over the cleansing of Newman’s place after his death. I was also very excited to see that she’s been made the new DCS. I wonder how that will further complicate things with her and Arthur. Did he ever actually acknowledge the fact that she’s pregnant?

Then there was Teo. I thought all along that he was still on mission, but he sure made it hard to believe when he started beating people up and aiming guns at them. Now that he’s gone deeper undercover, I wonder if we’ll see him again soon or if we are done with his part of the story for now.

So many things to wonder about. Is it next week yet?

My favorite bits…

Finding out that Teo is an undercover operative. Wow. This story just keeps getting more and more twisted.

“That’s a father talking, not a handler.”
“I believe in him.”

“You just packed my favorite t-shirt, didn’t you?”

Auggie telling Annie he would forgive her for taking his favorite t-shirt, as long as she came back with it.

“Well, that didn’t go well.” – Oh, Annie, always one for understatements.

“You are her boyfriend and trust between you is paramount.”
“Yes I am and yes it is.”

“Forgive me if I don’t take relationship advice from you right now, Arthur.” – Oh, burn!

“If you can’t live with secrets, you shouldn’t be dating a spy.” – Oooh, burn right back!

Annie stopping Calder from beating the daylights out of Teo.

“The only way to defeat them is to become one of them.”

Finding out that Joan became the first woman DCS. Yes!

Annie pointing out to Arthur that they had succeeded.

“Can I have my t-shirt back now?” – I love how fast she gave it back.
