‘Switched at Birth’ Season 3 Announced by ABC Family; ‘The Fosters’ and ‘Twisted’ Receive Back-Order Pick-Ups

Switched at Birth Season 2 Episode 17 Prudence, Avarice, Lust, Justice, Anger (2)

ABC Family officially renewed the Peabody Award winning Switched at Birth for a third season today (July 30th), as well as giving back orders to both of their freshmen summer series, The Fosters and Twisted. Switched at Birth, The Fosters and Twisted, join the previously renewed comedies Melissa and Joey and Baby Daddy. All three dramas will join Pretty Little Liars for winter premieres in January 2014.

“It’s thrilling to count our two freshman series, ‘The Fosters’ and ‘Twisted’ among our stable of strong, must-see, must-tweet series,” said Kate Juergens, Executive Vice President, Original Programming and Development and Chief Creative Officer, ABC Family in a statement. “’Switched at Birth’ is like no other show on television and we are so proud to have it as part of our family. Adding additional seasons and episodes of our returning series spotlights how well our programming resonates with our audience.”

With both Twisted and The Fosters excelling expectations in the ratings alongside ABC Family’s veteran series Pretty Little Liars and Switched at Birth, the network has become cable TV’s number one network in Prime in Women 18-34 and the number two cable TV network in Females 12-34.

However, it’s not all good news. The overwhelming success of ABC Family’s summer crop of dramas spelled the end for the recently cancelled Bunheads and The Lying Game.

Once again, Pretty Little Liars, Switched at Birth, The Fosters and Twisted will all return January 2014 on ABC Family.
