‘Luther’ Season 3 Special Four-Night Premiere Announced by BBC America

American fans won’t have long to wait between episodes of the intense drama Luther. The third season of the addictive cop series starring Golden Globe winner Idris Elba will air over four consecutive nights on BBC America beginning Tuesday, September 3rd at 10:00PM.

Season three will find Luther facing more of his personal demons than ever before as the detective finds himself embroiled in not just one, but two cases, while also dealing with an ex-cop who has made it his mission to bring Luther’s career tumbling down around him. With one case involving a fetishist targeting young women and the other the murder of an internet tormentor, expect season three to be just as heart-stopping as ever, made even more so when Luther’s co-workers begin to target Luther’s partner and friend Detective Sergeant Ripley in order to remove Luther from the department.

Luther’s life won’t all be work and drama though, he’ll also find himself a girlfriend in Mary Day (Sienna Guillory, Love Actually). Meanwhile, expect a familiar redhead to reenter his life as well.

“He’s gone through a lot of trauma,” Elba said in a statement. “Each time you go through anything bad in your life, it makes you a bit more reflective, and it definitely scars you in some way – in this series he’s looking for peace. But a lot happens in this season…I don’t know where it’s going to leave Luther. He’s not a fragile man, but he might end up becoming fragile after what he goes through. This series is very much about Luther trying to change his life and get to the finish line.”

All four parts of Luther‘s third installment will air on consecutive nights beginning Tuesday, September 3rd at 10:00PM ET/PT and concluding Friday, September 6th at 10PM ET/PT on BBC America. Check out the season three trailer here.
