‘Game of Thrones’ Jason Momoa Cast in Sundance Channel’s ‘Red Road’ July 19, 2013 News Jason Momoa played the fierce Khal Drogo on HBO’s Game of Thrones and the warrior Conan in a reboot of the classic film, now the actor has landed a role in the Sundance Channel’s second original series Red Road (formally known as The Descendants). The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that the star would be returning to the small screen as Philip, a Ramapo-Indian son of a crime lord who THR describes as “brimming with menace, charisma and hypnotic self-confidence.” Red Road focuses on the struggles of a sheriff who must police two communities that constantly clash, while also holding together his family. Momoa’s Philip is accused of killing the sheriff’s brother-in-law, so his presence in town will not be welcome– although the actor’s presence on our screens certainly will be. The news of Momoa’s casting comes just one day after the Sundance Channel received 10 Emmy nods for their limited series Top of the Lake and Restless. After the successful Rectify, Red Road marks the network’s second foray into original programming.
