Channel 4’s ‘New Worlds’ Casts ‘Once Upon a Time’ and ‘Game of Thrones’ Fan Favorites

The UK’s Channel 4 is heading to the Restoration period for their upcoming four-part drama New Worlds, and they’re taking a pair of genre fan favorites with them. The network announced that the cast will include Game of Thrones‘ Joe Dempsie and Once Upon a Time‘s Jamie Dornan, as well as Freya Mavor (The White Queen) and Alice Englert (Beautiful Creatures). The quartet of actors will play a group of young idealists in the 1680s, in a story that will span both sides of the Atlantic as the characters fight to create a better future.

Written and created by Peter Flannery (Our Friends In The North) and Martine Brant, the series is a follow-up to the BAFTA-nominated series The Devil’s Whore. The story will pick up at Fanshawe House where Angelica (Eve Best, Nurse Jackie) is trying to shelter her daughter Beth (Mavor) from the chaotic political landscape, only to have a handsome outlaw (Dornan) come along to draw Beth into the conflict. Meanwhile in New England, Hope (Englert) and Ned (Dempsie) are at the frontlines of the New World’s attempts to remove themselves from England’s rule.

New Worlds is a compelling four part drama capturing the political struggles of the period following the English Civil War both at home and overseas,” Piers Wenger, Channel 4 Head of Drama said in a statement. “The combination of Peter and Martine’s scripts and Charles Martin’s direction has attracted a diverse and glittering cast and we’re greatly looking forward to seeing their work brought to the screen”

Filming will begin later this month for a 2014 debut.

Are you hoping New Worlds will makes its way across the pond, American fans?
