‘Sherlock’ Star Mark Gatiss Lands Mystery ‘Game of Thrones’ Season 4 Role

Mark Gatiss is no stranger to genre TV having co-created and starred in Sherlock, as well as written episodes of and guest starred in Doctor Who. Now EW has revealed the prolific actor/writer/producer has landed a role in Game of Thrones season four. But as who?

So far whoever Gatiss is playing is being kept quiet, but the sprawling world of A Song of Ice and Fire only grows larger as George R.R. Martin’s tale progresses, meaning there’s no shortage of characters he could be playing. Might he be Cold Hands? Or possibly one of Theon and Yara’s uncles? Or is he the patriarch of the Tyrell family, in town for his daughter’s wedding to the sociopathic King Joffrey? The only new character we know for sure he won’t be playing is The Red Viper, so let your imaginations run wild, Game of Thrones‘ fans. Who do you think Gatiss will be playing, and what do you think the odds are that executive producers David Benioff and D. B. Weiss will spill the details at the Game of Thrones‘ Comic-Con 2013 panel this week?

Game of Thrones season four will premiere on HBO in 2014.
