Covert Affairs Season 4 Premiere Advance Review “Vamos” – Not Exactly Happily Ever After

Covert Affairs Season 4 Episode 1 Vamos (10)

In the season 4 premiere of Covert Affairs, called “Vamos,” the stakes are higher than ever when Annie and Auggie get pulled into a situation that will affect them, as well as Arthur and Joan.

Oh boy, this game of “How much can I say about the episode without giving away any spoilers” is going to be one of the hardest I’ve ever played yet. There are at least three or four different “OMG!” and/or “WTF!” moments in this premiere and it’s going to be tough to discuss this episode without mentioning them directly.

Time Has no Meaning

When the series ended last season, we saw Annie and Auggie sharing a kiss and we knew their lives would be changed forever. Well, if you were hoping to see them tangled in the rest of that embrace as this premiere began, you will be a tad disappointed. The episode begins somewhere in the future, but you will also be happy to know that you will get to see those precious moments… eventually. Time jumps around a bit in this episode and it took me a minute to remember where everything was happening in relation to that first scene. Pay attention to those first few minutes, that’s all I can say.

Annie and Auggie: Happily ever after?

The moment that we were all waiting for for the past three seasons finally happened. The previews show Auggie and Annie getting down and dirty, so I know I can tell you that they are together. Does that mean that everything is a fantasy and they’re just going to skip off into the sunset together holding hands? Yeah, right. No, Auggie and Annie definitely don’t have it easy in this one, but they take on everything that comes at them as a team and I loved seeing that. I almost hope that Annie never goes on a mission alone again, I loved seeing her working with Auggie that much.

Arthur and Joan: A beginning and an end

Remember the moments I described above? Arthur and Joan’s story contained at least two or three of them. When the episode begins, they are in a pretty good place. But all of that changes as the episode goes on and while not all of the turmoil is necessarily bad news (more like complicated news), there is a major whammy that hits both of them by the time the credits roll.

But wait, there’s more!

Believe it or not, there is more in this episode than I’ve already mentioned. As for the rest, I can say that you will get to meet a couple of new characters, both of whom look as though they will play major roles in the rest of this season. I can also say that Henry Wilcox is back with a vengeance and will have his hand in many pies in this episode.

My favorite (non-spoilery) bits.

“It’s too late for heart to hearts.”

“So, that happened.”

“Nice distraction.”
“Caught that, did you?”

Annie and Auggie sharing a quiet and romantic dance.

“So you’re like the sheriff in this here town?”
“I’m not like the sheriff, I am the sheriff.”

“How do I sound?”
“I don’t know, say something dirty.”

“It’s just a graze? Who says that?”
“A tough guy.”

“You’re blind?”
“No, she can see just fine.”

Two words: Field surgery. (Holy crap!)

“Scars are sexy.”
“Depends on how you get them.”

“Come on, cowboy, we got a plane to catch.”

“This changes everything.”

Covert Affairs season 4 premieres on Tuesday, July 16 at 9/8C on USA. Once you’ve seen the premiere, come back up here and let me know what you thought. I love hearing from you guys!
