Oscar Winner Mira Sorvino Coming to ‘Psych’

The long-running USA Network dramedy Psych will be visited by Oscar winner Mira Sorvino for its 8th (and likely) final season.

According to a report at TV Line, Sorvino will likely be filling the void that will be made by departing series regular Maggie Lawson – who was cast in the upcoming ABC sitcom ‘Back in the Game’. But fans should not fear as this casting does not mean that Lawson is gone completely from ‘Psych’, as she will appear in a “handful of episodes”.

Sorvino will play the “Santa Barbara Police Department’s newest head detective, Betsy Brannigan, an incredibly sweet, adorably reserved and yet certified badass”. Her record “for taking down ruthless criminals is rivaled only by her skills in sparkly craft making and her seemingly bubbly demeanor” which she “can turn on a dime once she straps in the dual-wielded Colt .45s”. She is being described as a “scrapbooking, cat loving, crime-fighting machine”.

Among Sorvino’s credits include her Academy Award winning role in ‘Mighty Aphrodite’, the cult classic film ‘Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion’ and the horror flick ‘Mimic’. Her TV credits include guest appearances on ‘House’ and ‘Will & Grace’ and the recent made-for-TV movies ‘Finding Mrs. Claus’ and ‘Space Warriors’.

The upcoming 8th (and, again, likely final) season of ‘Psych’ will consist of 10 episodes with Sorvino set to first appear starting in the 7th episode. ‘Psych’ has yet to be given an official airdate, though.
