The Legend of Korra: Book One: Air Blu-ray [Review]

the legend of korra book one air blu-ray

My favorite animated series has to be without a doubt Avatar: The Last Airbender and I was of course very sad when that came to an end. But my sorrow was made a whole lot better when Nickelodeon released The Legend of Korra, a sequel to Avatar: The Last Airbender and if you haven’t gotten a chance to watch the series yet, it’s your lucky day because the first season of The Legend of Korra is now available on DVD and Blu-ray

Set 70 years after the events of Avatar: The Last Airbender, The Legend of Korra follows the adventures of 17-year-old Korra (Janet Varney), who happens to be the next Avatar. Korra decides to head to Republic City to live with Tenzin, Aang’s son, who is also her guide to mastering air bending. Soon, Korra discovers an anti-bending underground movement set to bring an end to all the benders.

Of course, after watching such an amazing show as Avatar: The Last Airbender you have to wonder whether The Legend of Korra could ever reach the same brilliance and excitement and I’m here to tell you it does. From the very first episode, The Legend of Korra grabs us and takes us on yet another thrilling journey in the world of benders. If you enjoyed Avatar: The Last Airbender, you’re going to love The Legend of Korra.

And for those who have never seen Avatar: The Last Airbender, you can jump in and watch The Legend of Korra without having seen it. Of course I would recommend you do watch it because it’s such a good show and it might give you a few insight into Korra’s storyline, but it’s not required.

I got a chance to take a look at the Blu-ray version of The Legend of Korra: Book One: Air and it’s one of those titles that are worth buying just for the show itself. However, the Blu-ray does feature a few extra features as well.

The Bonus features on the Blu-ray include:

The Legend of Puppetbender Presents “The Making of a Legend: The Untold Story Part I” – A fun featurette starring the stars of the show as puppets explaining how the show came to be.

Creators’ Favorite Scenes: Animatics (Blu-ray Exclusive) – These eight animatics show you the concepts/storyboards from scenes from the show next to the final product. Quite interesting if you want to find out more about how the show comes to life.

Audio Commentaries from series creators, cast and crew (Blu-ray Exclusive) – If you are a fan of audio commentaries, then you will love this because every single episode in the season gets a commentary.

And that’s it.

I don’t tend to buy too many DVDs/Blu-rays but The Legend of Korra is definitely one I would encourage you to get, just because the series is so incredible. Plus if you already have the Avatar: The Last Airbender DVDs (like me), it’s a perfect addition to your collection.
