Twisted Season 1 Review “Sleeping With the Frenemy”

Twisted Episode 4 Sleeping with the Frenemy (4)

A few people were struck off the suspects list on this week’s Twisted, ‘Sleeping With the Frenemy’, but, as is usually the way on shows like this, we were offered twice as many questions as we got answers. Were Regina and Archie having an affair behind Lacey’s back? And what will Karen do with the necklace now she knows Danny has it in the house?

It’s starting to look like the law enforcement in this town isn’t much better than the telly standard, with Jo’s dad completely dismissing our big, fat clue from the end of last week outright. The sheriff doesn’t think Archie is worth looking into despite the gaping hole in his alibi? That’s both professional and the sign of a supportive parent – well done. But Jo isn’t willing to let the matter drop as easily, and encourages Danny to befriend the jocks while at soccer practice. You already know how well that’s going to turn out.

Meanwhile, Jo does her best to question the girls by accepting Lacey’s last minute invitation to a sleepover. Though Phoebe and Sarita aren’t the biggest fans of each other, they’re united by their mutual distrust and distaste for Jo and the sleepover turns into a nightmare for everyone. While Jo’s fishing for evidence, however, she’s able to briefly reconnect with her former BFF, and the two finally have it out with each other. Why is Jo so willing to trust Danny? Because if he’s innocent, it means the life she’s been able to claw back these past few weeks won’t be ripped away again.

There’s a literal box of clues at the sleepover (thanks ABC Family for the #whatsinthebox pointer), also, as Regina’s mom stops by to offer Lacey some of her daughter’s things. In there, Jo discovers a DVD marked ‘Archie’s Greatest Hits’, which looks suspiciously like Regina had a thing for her bestie’s boyfriend. Archie explains it away in the locker room by admitting he was seeing Regina’s uncle about moving to another team the night of Regina’s murder, which conveniently makes his alibi a little tighter. Is this another lie? Probably not, and at least it means that we can rule out one prime suspect.

I really like the introduction of a team sport that brings Archie and Danny together, as it gives the show a readymade excuse to ramp up the tension between the two. With the estranged relationship between Danny and Lacey seemingly hotting up next week, too, having Archie forced to interact with ‘Danny DePsycho’ is going to be pretty entertaining. But how long will he be attending school at all, what with Karen finding the necklace in his dad’s recliner chair. It’s an ingenious place to hide it – well done Danny – but now that Karen knows her son might have something to do with another murder, will she keep it to herself?
