Continuum Season 2 Review “Second Truths”

The inevitable has finally come to pass on this week’s Continuum, ‘Second Truths’, as Carlos has finally been let in on the series’ big secret. No longer in the dark on cases or in the personal plot lines for Kiera, that one final conversation going into the episode’s end credits has the potential to change absolutely everything about the show. If we can also assume that Kiera will tell Carlos about Liber8 and their ultimate agenda, then he’s going to be a much more important part of the resistance alongside his partner.

It had to happen now, or things would have gotten tedious and repetitive. I, for one, was starting to respect Carlos less and less for the fact that he hadn’t thought to ask any big questions, but now he can play a real part in the mission. With Betty’s betrayal in the mix too, Kiera’s going to need all the help she can get. I worry slightly for his safety now that he knows, so I hope the writers don’t kill him off anytime soon. Kiera needs a male presence to bounce off of and, with Alec and Kellogg getting chummy across town, the only one to fit the bill is Carlos.

Meanwhile, Alec thinks he’s found love with new girl Emily, who a couple of weeks ago I outed as a possible mole, but guess what? She’s only with him to infiltrate his and Kellogg’s organization. While I feel kind of sorry for him, he really should be a little more careful when he’s handling the most precious research in human history/future – inviting your new girlfriend into your research lab for a bit of hanky panky isn’t the best idea in the world. We don’t yet know exactly who she’s working for, but we can guess it’s not good news.

Another mysterious organization (or quite possibly the same one) introduced this week were Piron, who Kiera encountered this week under the guise of meeting Dillon. It looks as though, since being ousted from the police force last week, Dillon has been making some shady new friends. They’re interested in Kiera, also, and are keen to be her allies rather than her enemy. It’s sad in the way that implies she might not want them as adversaries, so we can assume Piron will play some part in the wider season arc – whether it’s as a help or a hindrance to the fight against Liber8.
