‘Derek’ Series Premiere Announced By Netflix

Netflix has given Ricky Gervais’ original series, Derek, a premiere date of September 12, 2013 at 12:01 AM PT. The video on demand platform plans to unveil all seven episodes of the show that was written, directed and produced by the award winning actor.

Ted Sarandos, Chief Content Officer for Netflix, spoke about the series debut of ‘Derek’. “Ricky Gervais is one of the most distinctive comedy voices of his generation. With ‘Derek,’ Ricky takes on new territory and mixes comedy with drama that is sometimes touching and sometimes heartbreaking. We are proud to partner with Ricky to present this unique and wonderful series to our members”

The dark comedy will play out with a group of outsiders living on society’s margins with ‘Derek’ at the center of the story. Played by Ricky Gervais, the character is described as a “tender, innocent man” who works at a retirement. Joining Gervais’ ‘Derek’ is Dougie. Played by Karl Pilkington, Dougie is Derek’s unlucky landlord. Actor David Earl will play Kev, the show’s resident train wreck alongside a care worker, Hannah (Kerry Godliman), who is also the best friend of ‘Derek’, named Hannah (Godliman), a care worker in the home and Derek’s best friend.
