TBS and TNT are set to become the first national entertainment networks to offer live 24/7 streaming across multiple platforms to cable, satellite and telco video service subscribers. In order to watch the live streams viewers will be required to log in with their cable or satellite provider information. The news was announced today (May 15th) at TBS and TNT’s upfront presentation.

“Starting this summer, subscribers will be able to watch TBS and TNT live – anytime, anywhere, on multiple devices,” Steve Koonin, president of Turner Entertainment Networks, told the Upfront audience. “Tablets and smartphones become television sets, bringing new opportunities for us and for advertisers.”

The roll-out will coincide with the debut of the networks’ full summer slates of original programming, which includes hit series like Falling Skies, Rizzoli & Isles, Major Crimes and Sullivan & Son. In addition to their regular programming, sports programs will also be available for streaming including TNT’s award-winning coverage of the NBA, which encompasses the regular season, playoffs and All-Star Weekend; TBS’s regular-season and playoff coverage of Major League Baseball; and both network’s coverage of the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship.

TNT and TBS have not yet released the official date that streaming will begin, but when it does, viewers will be able to access the streams through the official TBS and TNT websites, as well as through the newly launched iPhone/iPad apps. The free Watch TNT and Watch TBS apps will be available shortly before the official launch with more platforms set to be announced later this year.
