‘How I Met Your Mother’ Fans Finally Met The “Mother” In Season 8 Finale [+ Video]

Yellow umbrella alert!

How I Met Your Mother fans finally met the titular mother in “Something New,” Monday night’s eighth season finale, in the form of Once Broadway star Cristin Milioti. The long-awaited reveal came as the Mother bought a train ticket to take her to Farhampton where she is destined to meet Ted Mosby (Josh Radnor), the future father of her children. And yes, kids, she was carrying that all-important yellow umbrella.

“It was a pretty big umbrella to fill, casting the title role in a series that’s been on the air for eight years,” said Carter Bays, Executive Producer and Co-Creator of How I Met Your Mother in a statement. “And yet Cristin Milioti is, against all odds, exactly what we were looking for. She made us laugh on “30 Rock,” she made us swoon in “Once,” and her ukulele skills are no joke. We’re thrilled to welcome her to the How I Met Your Mother family, and look forward to getting to know her – and the character she plays – much better in the coming final season. And to all the fans, on behalf of all of us writers, cast and crew: Thank you for sticking with us on this wild journey. Our ninth season will tell the epic story of
the longest wedding weekend ever. We hope you like it. Next stop, Farhampton…”

Milioti just ended her run as “Girl” in the hit Broadway musical adaptation of the motion picture Once. She received a Grammy award and a Tony nomination for her performance. Milioti has previously appeared in 30 Rock, The Sopranos, The Good Wife and Nurse Jackie. She will next be seen alongside Leonardo DiCaprio in Martin Scorsese’s The Wolf of Wall Street.

Do you think Militoti is right for the role? Were you satisfied with the reveal? Sound off in the comments.

How I Met Your Mother‘s ninth and final season will premiere Fall 2013 on CBS. If you missed the big reveal, check out the clip in full below.
