Could ‘Body of Proof’ Continue on Cable?

As TV viewers know, ABC recently made the decision to pull the plug on the Dana Delany-led medical drama Body of Proof after three seasons despite the retooling that took place within the show as well as its improved ratings over the previous season. But perhaps it is not time for fans of the series to lose all hope, as the show’s producer ABC Studios is “actively shopping the drama series” around to other networks.

According to a report at Deadline, ABC Studios has shopped ‘Body of Proof’ to TNT and the USA Network as well as (possibly) Tribune’s WGN America, which is in “building mode, looking to join the ranks of cable networks offering original programming.

It is obviously too soon to know if any of these (or any other) cable networks will take the bait, reeling the show in to their ranks or not, but the show has been averaging 11 million viewers with a decent share of the much coveted 18 to 49 year old demographic, ‘Body of Proof’ would bring “a sizable audience to (any) cable network.

The folks at Deadline find the “prospect of WGN America…particularly intriguing” since the netlet “only signaled its intention to get in the original scripted game in March, and acquiring an existing show is the fastest way of doing that”. It should be noted that ‘Body of Proof” would actually fit well with the off-network dramas for which the network currently airs such as ‘Bones’.

In the meantime, the remaining, few episodes of the third season of ‘Body of Proof’ are set to air on ABC on Tuesday nights on May 21 and 28 at 10/9c.
