‘The New Normal’ Cancelled by NBC

NBC’s cancellation bloodbath claimed another victim late Friday evening when the network announced that Ryan Murphy’s The New Normal was getting axed.

The series starred Justin Bartha and Andrew Rannells as a gay couple who hired a surrogate to help them start a family. As The Hollywood Reporter notes, The New Normal marks the first series from the prolific Murphy (Glee, American Horror Story) to not make it past its first season. Like its time slot companion Go On, The New Normal started out the season strong in the ratings thanks to a lead-in from The Voice, but the series quickly faded when the musical juggernaut’s fall season ended. It now joins a growing list of series that will not be returning to NBC in the fall, including 1600 Penn, Animal Practice, Guys with Kids and Deception.

NBC will announce their full 2013-2014 lineup Monday, May 13th during their annual upfront presentation.
