ABC Orders ‘Once Upon a Time Wonderland’ To Series

ABC will make their official upfront presentation to the advertisers in New York next Tuesday, May 14, but they made some early announcements on Friday, including the pick-up order for the spin-off series Once Upon a Time Wonderland. The plan for this new series will actually be as a “limited-run stand alone series to bridge the winter hiatus of ‘Once Upon a Time’.

The premise of the spin-off is this: “In Victorian England, the young and beautiful Alice (to played by newcomer Sophie Lowe) tells a tale of a strange new land that exists on the other side of a rabbit hole. An invisible cat, a hookah smoking caterpillar and playing cards that talk are just some of the fantastic things she’s seen during this impossible adventure. Surely this girl must be insane and her doctors aim to cure her with a treatment that will make her forget everything. Alice seems ready to put it all behind her — especially the painful memory of the genie she fell in love with and lost forever, the handsome and mysterious Cyrus (Peter Gadiot) — but deep down she knows this world is real and just in the nick of time, the sardonic Knave of Hearts (Michael Socha from ‘Being Human’) and the irrepressible White Rabbit (to be voiced by legendary actor John Lithgow) save her from a doomed fate”.

The pilot episode of ‘Wonderland’ was written by Eddy Kitsis and Adam Horowitz, the co-creators of ‘Once Upon a Time’ and will be executive produced by Steve Perlman and Zack Estrin.
