ABC Orders ‘Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’

In advance of next week’s upfront presentations in New York City, ABC has announced another new drama that will debut this fall; and it’s a pilot that pop culture fans have felt very positive about its future since the first mention of its development.

What drama is that? Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Yes, that’s a mouthful, but this is the drama to plan to watch.

Why you ask? Well, its S.H.I.E.L.D. and the behind the show is none other than Joss Whedon himself, the director of ‘The Avengers’ and ‘Serenity’ and the creator of cult TV shows ‘Buffy, the Vampire Slayer’ and ‘Angel’ as well as ‘Dollhouse’, ‘Firefly’ and ‘Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog’.

The series will focus on a “highly select group of Agents from the worldwide law-enforcement organization known as S.H.I.E.L.D. Together they investigate the new, the strange, and the unknown across the globe, protecting the ordinary from the extraordinary”. The cast includes Clark Gregg, who is reprising his role of Agent Phil Coulson (from ‘Thor’ and ‘Iron Man’); Brett Dalton (from the made-for-TV movie ‘Killing Lincoln’) as Agent Grant Ward, who is trained in combat and espionage; Ming-Na(from ‘Stargate Universe’ and ‘Eureka’) as Agent Melinda May, an expert pilot and martial artist; Iain De Caestecker (from ‘The Fades’) as Agent Leo Fitz, a brilliant engineer; Elizabeth Henstridge (from ‘Hollyoaks’) as Agent Jemma Simmons, a genius bio-chemist and Chloe Bennet (from ‘Nashville’) as new recruit and computer hacker Skye.

Besides Whedon behind the helm, his brother and sister-in-law Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen will also act as executive producers. Viewers will get their first look at the series during the season finale of ‘Once Upon a Time’ when it airs its season finale tomorrow, Sunday, May 12.
