The BBC (the major network in the U.K.) has ordered a new half-hour drama that, according to The Hollywood Reporter, will “feature characters from Charles Dickens’ books”.

The new drama that will be written by Tony Jordan and produced by Red Plant Productions will be called Dickensian and “will bring the world of Dickens to life in a drama populated by the vivid characters from his classic books who will meet in the most surprising of ways”.

It is unknown at this time which characters from the Dickens’ classics, such as “David Copperfield”, “Oliver Twist” and Ebenezer Scrooge”, will be included in the series nor for that matter how many episodes the new show will receive, but the number will be “confirmed later”.

‘Dickensian’ is “part of a slate of four BBC dramas” that were recently announced by the network, as part of “the last commissions from Danny Cohen in his role as controller of flagship network BBC One”.

There is no word on whether ‘Dickensian’ will make it across the pond to those of us in the United States, though.
