TNT Greenlights ‘The Last Ship’ from Executive Producer Michael Bay [+Video]

TNT has ordered 10-episodes of the Michael Bay produced global catastrophe drama The Last Ship, set to premiere Summer 2014. The network also released a blockbuster style trailer for the series that plays up the action, while revealing The Last Ship‘s grim pandemic plot.

Based on a novel by William Brinkley, The Last Ship stars Eric Dane (Grey’s Anatomy) as the Captain of the U.S.S. Nathan James, a Navy vessel that avoids the pandemic devastating the world’s population due to its positioning. It’s not until the ship encounters paleomicrobiologist Rachel Scott (Strike Back‘s Rhona Mitra) that the crew is informed of the catastrophe, but once they are, they become the last hope the world has of finding a cure. The series also stars Adam Baldwin (Firefly) and Tracy Middendorf (Boardwalk Empire).

The Last Ship has all the elements of a big Hollywood blockbuster, from its epic storytelling to its top-notch cast headed by the perfect leading man, Eric Dane,” said Michael Wright, president, head of programming for TNT, TBS and Turner Classic Movies (TCM) in a statement. “Michael Bay and his fellow executive producers have shaped William Brinkley’s story and characters into an exceptional drama full of action, suspense, tragedy and triumph. The Last Ship is smart, fun television that takes you on a great ride.”

Once again, The Last Ship will premiere Summer 2014 on TNT. What do you think of your first look at the drama?
