‘Dexter’ Season 8: Showtime Confirms Final Season [+ Video]

Dexter Season 7 Episode 11 Do You See What I See

It’s official; Dexter‘s eighth season will definitely be its last.

Showtime confirmed the news in a special announcement Thursday afternoon, and released a scene from the premiere (embedded below) to give fans an early peek at the last leg of Dexter Morgan’s (Michael C. Hall) journey.

“When it debuted in 2006, DEXTER redefined the genre, by taking the anti-hero to new heights and pushing the boundaries of the television landscape,” said Matthew C. Blank, Chairman and CEO, Showtime Networks Inc, in a statement. “DEXTER paved the way for the next generation of award-winning hit SHOWTIME series, and its cultural impact will be felt for years to come.”

Season eight will pick up six months after LaGuerta’s (Lauren Vélez) murder with Dexter having resumed business as usual as a blood-spatter expert, father and serial killer, while his sister Debra (Jennifer Carpenter) continues to struggle with the choice she made to save her brother. Meanwhile, a mysterious woman will arrive at Miami Metro and offer Debra first-hand information on Dexter’s past.

What do you think Dexter fans? Are you glad the news was finally confirmed or just bummed that Dex is officially hanging up his knives?

Dexter season eight premieres Sunday, June 30th at 9pm ET/PT on Showtime.
