Christopher Abbott Leaving ‘Girls’

Actor Christopher Abbott is departing the HBO series Girls, the New York Post has reported. Abbott’s decision to leave the series comes as a surprise with Page Six reporting that the reason for his departure is due to difficulty with Girls’ star Lena Dunham.

“They’ve just started work on Season 3, and Chris is at odds with Lena. He didn’t like the direction things are going in, which seems a bit odd since the show put him on the map.”

Abbott’s rep has since confirmed his departure from the series, sharing – “[Chris] is grateful for the experience of collaborating with Lena, Judd [Apatow], and the entire ‘Girls’ cast and crew, but right now he’s working on numerous other projects and has decided not to return to the show.”

Word on what the show runners plan to do to fill the void has yet to be revealed. In the meantime, Abbott fans can catch the actor in the upcoming 2013 film ‘The Sleepwalker’. He is also on board ‘The Exit Room’ and ‘Burma’. Prior to his stint as Charlie Dattolo in ‘Girls’, Abbott has appeared in ‘Hell I Must Be Going’, ‘Law and Order: Criminal Intent’ as the guest character Kyle Wyler, ‘Nurse Jackie’ and the 2009 short ‘Snapshots’.
