Nikita Season 3 Review “Tipping Point”

So, we’ve finally reached the point of no return – the ‘Tipping Point’ if you will – as one of Division’s own betrays them in the most terrible of ways. It’s important to note that we’re only at episode 16 of a 20-odd episode season, and things have suddenly got very, very messy for Nikita and her dwindling crew of faithful allies.

Despite the hints and the rumblings in the fan community about something being seriously wrong with Alex, I doubt anyone saw that twist coming. What we thought was a simple episode focused on Michael getting his hand back and Division sorting out a small uprising among recruits turned out to be a whole lot more. Last week, problems with government support forced Nikita and Ryan to re-evaluate their mission, refocusing on their task to bring in the Dirty Thirty and shut down Division for good.

But, after Alex told the recruits how much danger they were in, some of them aren’t too happy with how things have been run since Percy was taken down. Is this a better way? Possibly not, and they’re not just going to wait about for the mass slaughter that could easily occur should the president give her orders. The way the episode was constructed was really interesting, as it introduced us to previously faceless recruits and gave them a voice as if they were regular players.

One of these guest characters was Jason, who unfortunately died on the mission to get Michael a new hand. This just aggravated the rest of the mutiny, and things had to boil over. The trouble is, with Michael and Nikita both out of the office, it was left to Ryan and Alex to sort out the problem. Too bad for Ryan that Alex is the behind the whole scheme, and she’s prepared to do absolutely anything to remove suspicion. It was heavily suggested that Amanda manipulated her past memories of the brothel and transferred those strong feelings onto her situation at Division, making her as desperate and ruthless as she was before Nikita found her.

Now she’s determined to save the recruits in Division like she couldn’t save the other girls in the brothel, and that plan involved shooting Ryan in the gut. Will he live? It’s hard to tell right now, but I guess Nikita is going to have to find out about the betrayal one way or another. I, for one, can’t wait until that happens, since Alex and Nikita’s relationship is the heart of the show. Can Division survive a war between them?
