Starz’s ‘The White Queen’ Teaser: “Men Go To Battle, Women Wage War”

Starz will continue to mine the past for their original series this August with The White Queen, an adaptation of Philippa Gregory’s historical novel series The Cousins’ War.

Based on the struggles of Elizabeth Woodville (Rebecca Ferguson), Margaret Beaufort (Amanda Hale) and Anne Neville (Faye Marsay) to sit upon the English throne in 1464, The White Queen sounds a bit like Game of Thrones minus the dragons and ice zombies. The series will focus on the turbulent pre-Tudor era when the House of Lancaster and the House of York were locked in a war meant to determine who the rightful king was. The House of York’s Edward IV (Max Irons) is ultimately victorious thanks to “The Kingmaker,” Lord Warwick (James Frain), but his victory is immediately jeopardized when he falls for Elizabeth who is a Lancastrian commoner.

Starz has released a stylish teaser for the series (it’s embedded below). The teaser doesn’t include any footage, but it does have a killer tagline: “Men Go To Battle, Women Wage War.”
