In what cannot be seen as a surprise move by HBO, the network has announced that their hit series Game of Thrones has been renewed for a fourth season a mere few days after the show’s triumphant return this past Sunday night.

The series, of course, is based on the best-selling fantasy book series by author George R.R. Martin, which tells the epic story of treachery and nobility set on the continent of Westeros, where summers and winters can last years, and only the lust for power is eternal. The large cast includes Lena Headey, Peter Dinklage, Emilia Clarke, Kit Harington, Michelle Fairley, Iain Glen, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Sophie Turner, Maisie Williams and Jack Gleeson (among countless others).

‘Game of Thrones’ aired its third season premiere on Sunday night at 9/8c, earning an average of 4.4 million viewers, which is the highest rating the series has received in its run on HBO. In fact the show has improved 13% in comparison to last season’s premiere numbers.

The third season of the series is executive produced by David Benioff, D.B. Weiss, Carolyn Strauss, Frank Doegler and Bernadette Caulfield.

The next episode of the third season of ‘Game of Thrones’ will air on HBO this coming Sunday, April 7 at 9/8c.
