‘Once Upon a Time’ Spin-Off Lands First Cast Member

As we reported here last month, ABC is developing a spin-off series of Once Upon a Time.

And the more recent news is that British actor Michael Socha, best known for his role on the latter seasons of the original BBC series ‘Being Human’, is the first to be cast in the as-yet titled presentation from series creators Eddy Kitsis and Adam Horowitz.

The series, according to Deadline will “take place in pre-curse Wonderland” seen “through the point of view of Alice. She will be “surrounded by two major characters, The Knave of Hearts” (to be played of Socha), who is a “sardonic adventurer, a man of action, a loner and a heart-breaker” and Amahl, who is being described as “exotic, soulful and optimistic”.

Kitsis and Horowitz are working “on the 15 to 20 page, four-scene pilot presentation with input from Zack Estrin and Jane Espenson” that will begin “production on April 7 in Vancouver”. If the spin-off is picked up to series (which won’t be officially decided on until the upfront presentations in May), Estrin “is expected” to be the showrunner along with Kitsis and Horowitz”.
