Supernatural Season 8 Review “Freaks and Geeks” – Krissy Returns!

Supernatural (CW) Freaks and Geeks

In this episode of Supernatural, called “Freaks and Geeks,” Sam and Dean visit an old friend of Dean’s and discover that someone out there has decided to start up their own school for hunters.

I was very happy to see that Krissy was going to be back in this episode. I really got a kick out of the banter she and Dean shared the last time she was on the show. So I have to admit that, at first at least, I was a tad disappointed that we didn’t get that same girl back. The Krissy we got in this episode was a lot different than the one we met last time, but then again, how could she not be? The last Dean saw of her, Krissy and her father were going off to live a normal life. Unfortunately she only got a taste of that before waking up one morning to find her father dead. It made perfect sense for her to be where she was and it certainly toughened her up a lot, which I thought was great. The mere fact that Dean was willing to leave Krissy and her friends alone proved that he had acknowledged that she had grown up.

Speaking of Dean, I just loved seeing him in a fatherly mode again in this episode. The way he kept fighting for all of the kids to get out of hunting was so protective and wonderful. As was his reaction to finding the “baby” vampire and wanting to save her, too. He was just a bundle of feelings and caring and I adored all of it. It was also an interesting dichotomy to the way Sam was treating the whole thing. The fact that Sam was pretty much okay with the kids living the way they were spoke to me about how he must’ve been feeling about the rest of the Trials. We know he wants to live, but I think he was having his doubts, and maybe seeing kids who were living the hunter’s life – but also having some regular life in there, too – was good enough for him. That was of course until he saw what Victor had actually been up to with the vampire.

I think the most important line in the whole episode was when Dean said they were going to close the Gates of Hell so that all of those kids could have normal lives, and Sam mumbled that maybe they wouldn’t be the only ones. Maybe it took seeing that Victor was a fake for Sam to realize he was indeed the only shot those kids, and he and his brother, had at a normal family.

My favorite bits..

“There’s no one out here but us, Krissy.” – Yep, famous last words.

I just love it when Dean steers the Impala with one hand. I don’t know why, but I just do.

“I just want to make sure you’re okay.”
“What, like my feelings?”

Dean suggesting that he get some herbal tea and they put on some Cowboy Junkies and really have at the heart-to-heart.

“How about I punch you in the throat instead?”

They way they cut from Aiden picking the lock to Sam opening the door.

“Does it look like my bacon needs saving?”

“You’re never too young to kill monsters.”

Sam and Dean’s surprise at finding how normal Victor’s house was.

Sam and Dean discovering that the kids went to school.

“I know your friends. I mean Martin was insane. And somebody obviously dropped Garth on his head was a baby. And I know you two loved that Bobby guy, but he was a barely functioning alcoholic.”
“Watch it.” – The Garth part was funny, but I’m glad Dean put him in his place when he started talking smack about Bobby.

“Why don’t you stay here and look after the Brady Bunch.”

Dean finding another poor girl who had apparently been tricked into being a vampire.

Dean turning around to find himself facing three kids holding guns on him.

Whoa! I should’ve known Victor was up to no good.

“I don’t want to hurt you Dean, but I will if you don’t move.” – You know, I totally believe her.

“Big talk.”
“I know, it is, isn’t it?” – Dean plucking that gun out of Aiden’s hand was awesome.

Dean trying to convince the kids to help him save the girl. Who would’ve thought we’d ever see that day? So amazing to see how much Dean has changed in a few years. I love it though.

Finding out that Victor had killed all of the kids’ families. That sick son of a…

Krissy shooting that vamp in the eyes with dead-man’s-blood darts.

“You don’t kill people.”
“He’s not a person. He’s a monster.”

Krissy pulling the trigger for all of their families, but with an unloaded gun.

“Let’s save that girl.”

“Proud of you.”
“Shut up before I punch you.”

Krissy promising Dean that they wouldn’t go looking for monsters, but if they showed up there, they would handle them.

“You’re alright for an old guy.”
“I’m really not that old.”
“You keep telling yourself that.”

Dean warning Krissy that Garth was a little strange at first but she’d come to love him.

Krissy kissing Dean on the cheek. Too cute.

Dean warning Aidan that he wouldn’t have to kill her if he hurt Krissy, because Krissy would do it herself.

“Maybe we shut that hell hole once and for all those three can have a normal life.”
“Maybe they won’t be the only ones.”
