6 TV Crossovers That Will Only Happen In My Dreams

Elementary, Perception, Psych, The Finder, Hawaii Five-0, Justified, Once Upon a Time, Grimm, Continuum, NCIS: Los Angeles, Star Trek: The Next Generation, Stargate SG-1

For those of you unfamiliar with the term, a crossover is where you have an intersection of two different TV universes. The same characters from one series will appear in episodes of the other series. It had already occurred with some older series, most notably with the various Star Trek series, e.g., Lt. Worf appearing in Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Deep Space 9, and the Stargate series, e.g., Daniel appearing in Stargate SG-1, Stargate Atlantis and Stargate Universe. It has also occurred with some recent CBS programs, such as between NCIS and NCIS: Los Angeles and between NCIS: Los Angeles and Hawaii Five-0.

But what if we intersected series that are not naturally related? Last spring, one of the writers for this website did that for the series Supernatural. For purposes of this article, I will not be including Supernatural, since that territory has already been covered. But, don’t despair; there are lots of other crossovers to discuss!

Stargate SG-1/Star Trek: The Next Generation

Star Trek: The Next Generation and Stargate SG-1

Neither of these shows is currently on the air except in re-runs, but we are talking about my dreams, so…

Some of you are probably thinking, “Wait, these 2 programs are set in different centuries!” And of course you would be correct. However, this is sci-fi, and we won’t let a small detail like that stop us! Both series did time travel episodes, so our crossover will just be because of some time travel incident.

It would be interesting and oh so fun to watch O’Neill and his irreverence match wits with Picard and his staid approach to a situation. Plus, I know that many fans have debated who would win in a fight between Teal’c and Worf, so we could finally get an answer there! Sam would have a field day hanging with Geordi and Data, and Daniel and Troi could compare notes on empathy. For me, that would all be a win-win.

Psych/The Finder

Shawn - Psych and Walter - The Finder

It would be too easy to pair The Mentalist with Psych. I mean, really, The Mentalist is mentioned quite frequently on Psych! So, I would rather see a crossover between Psych and The Finder. For those of you unfamiliar with The Finder, it ran for just one season, but was about a fellow who could find anything. And, once he started looking, you could not stop him until he did find the object sought.

Shawn and Gus would have a field day with Walter’s methods. To help him visualize what occurred, Walter he would frequently construct elaborate dioramas – and that word just does not do justice for what exactly he did! – of the disappearance scenario to help him figure out where the object was. I can just picture Shawn and Gus getting totally involved in the construction and playing with the scenario!

NCIS: Los Angeles/Continuum

Continuum and Callen and Hannah - NCIS: Los Angeles

I have paired these two shows because both deal with terrorists. NCIS: Los Angeles does not deal exclusively with terrorists, but it does seem that many of their episodes have gone that direction, possibly as a way of distinguishing them from their parent show.

Continuum, on the other hand, is dealing exclusively with terrorists, but these bad guys are from the future, here to change the past, in order to affect the future. It would be very easy to have there be an overlap with their terrorist group, which is operating in Vancouver, Canada and other international group of terrorists! I would be interested to see how the NCIS: Los Angeles team deals with Keira and her future tech.

Grimm/Once Upon a Time

Snow and Charming - Once Upon a Time and Monroe and Nick - Grimm

This one probably seems like a no-brainer to most of you. And, yes, both series deal with fairy tales, but they take totally different approaches, so it would not necessarily be a natural match up.

This season on Once Upon a Time they have totally branched out from the Disney princess fairytale world, bringing in Captain Hook, and from totally outside the Disney realm, Dr. Frankenstein. So, it seems only logical and not really a stretch that they could also meet up with the Grimm creatures and work together to solve some problem that they share in common!

Hawaii Five-0/Justified

McGarrett - Hawaii Five-0 and Givens - Justified

I have only started watching Justified this season, so I have missed a lot of the back story on Raylan, and despite reading about him on different websites, there is likely to be a gap in my knowledge, so if I say something incorrect about him, I know you will let me know in the comment section below!

This crossover would be a matter of watching Steve and Raylan alternate annoying the heck out of each other. The two of them both work for justice, and do not seem to mind bending the law a little (or a lot!) to achieve their goals. What I think would be fun to watch is the difference in their styles. Steve is an “in your face” type of guy, who will just march into a pit of vipers and punch their lights out, whereas Raylan has a more relaxed vibe. Now, Raylan seems just as likely to just march into that pit too, but he would try to reason with them before shooting them.

Perception/Elementary

Holmes - Elementary and Pierce - Perception

Am I totally twisted to want to see these two men locked in a room solving a crime?

Both of these characters develop a single minded dedication to the crime they are trying to solve. Neither of them worries much about social conventions. They both have pasts that involve some sort of institutionalization and neither one wants to return.

Their thought processes are quite different however. Holmes uses a very methodical approach and relies on his powers of observation of both people and places. Pierce, on the other hand, suffers from paranoid schizophrenia, resulting in hallucinations and paranoid delusions. His hallucinations occasionally allow him to make connections beyond the reach of his conscious mind. I think it would be fascinating to watch the two work together on a case and mix their methods!

So, those are my fantasies for TV crossovers. What do you think? Do you have any you would like to add? Please be sure to let me know in the comment section below – I love to hear your thoughts and ideas!
