Kathy Bates Joining Season 3 of ‘American Horror Story’

Oscar-winning actress Kathy Bates has taken on the Titanic (and survived), has battled the TV gods in her own TV series ‘Harry’s Law’ (and somewhat survived, well, at least for two seasons) and now it seems she will be going up against her next big competition in the form of none other than legendary actress Jessica Lange in the upcoming third season of the FX thriller-fest series American Horror Story.

While details are scarce, and will presumably remain that way for quite some time to come, the folks over at TV Line reported last week that the two film legends will be pitted against each other in the third go-round for this much-buzzed about FX drama. It seems that Bates, in fact, will play the best friend of Lange’s new character in the new season, but turns into her enemy.

What is known at this time, straight from the mouth of series co-creator Ryan Murphy himself, is that Lange will play a “glamour cat leading lady” which is a complete role-reversal from the character Lange played in the most recent season of ‘American Horror Story” Asylum’. Murphy also revealed that this upcoming new season will be “more historical in nature” and will take in modern day, but as in past seasons of the show, viewers will “see different time periods and there will also be different cities”.

The only other details that are known about the third season are that, besides Lange returning, actresses Lily Rabe, Sarah Paulson, Frances Conroy and Taissa Farmiga as well as actor Evan Peters will all be back.

No details are available, as yet, on when the third season of ‘American Horror Story’ will air on FX.
