American Dad Season 8 Review “Naked To The Limit, One More Time”

It’s a weird week for American Dad. Like a few times before, the show seems to be embarking on an actual plot with “Naked To The Limit, One More Time.” That is, one that spans multiple episodes, and may change the continuity in a way that the show, which usually has an attitude more akin to Warner Brothers cartoons in regards to character mutilation and reappearance, usually refrains from doing. Of course, I can’t know for sure until we see the next few episodes, but there is one coming up eventually called “Lost in Space,” which I’m going to go ahead and take as a hint.

And here’s where I have to admit something kind of embarrassing: for a while there, in the middle of “Naked To The Limit,” I genuinely thought the show might be saying goodbye to Roger. Of course they weren’t, but they played it so straight, especially with the (overly long, in my opinion) montage, that they tricked me. Eventually, though, I caught on, and predicted the Jeff swap right before it happened on-screen. And boy, am I glad it did; adding Jeff to the family more permanently was something I never quite understood why the show did. He’s a limited character, and they’ve never done much to flesh him out. As far as I’m concerned, if this episode does have actual repercussions, good riddance.

The real star of “Naked To The Limit, One More Time,” however, was the B-plot, in which a teen boy’s ass growing in was treated exactly like a girl growing her breasts. It was silly and fun, and gave us both a reference to bounce music and a donut place theme song. Especially great was the scene with Francine stuffing Steve’s pants, and Stan walking in and right away turning back around. While the Roger story occasionally lagged in laughs, this half of the episode always brought it back up, making for an enjoyable episode of American Dad.
