BBC America’s ‘Ripper Street’: Check Out the Bloody First Three Minutes of the Premiere

Can’t wait for the series premiere of BBC America’s Ripper Street? Maybe this will help tide you over until Saturday: you can catch the first three minutes of the premiere right now.

Set in 1889 England, Ripper Street focuses on the H Division of London’s police force as they try to restore some semblance of order to the streets of Whitechapel in the aftermath of Jack the Ripper’s gruesome murders. That’s not going to be an easy task from the looks of things. Within the series’ opening moments a Victorian-era walking tour of Jack’s old haunts takes a deadly turn before we even hit the two-minute mark.

Even before the tourists start screaming bloody murder (literally), the series establishes its grim and gritty tone as Inspector Reid (Matthew MacFadyen) takes in a brutal boxing match that the squeamish among us should be prepared to shield their eyes from. Watch the opening scene below and let us know if it has you jonesing for more Ripper Street in the comments.

Ripper Street premieres Saturday, January 19th at 9/8c on BBC America.
