New Girl Season 2 Review “A Father’s Love” – The New Blue Eyes

We’ve been meeting a lot of family on this season of New Girl, and in this week’s episode, “A Father’s Love,” we got to meet the man responsible for Nick, his gambling, con-artist father, Walt (played by Dennis Farina). I have to admit, it’s much easier now to see why Nick has such issues when you realize that his father has been conning him and his friends out of money for his entire life.

And Walt found a new target in Jess, or as he called her, Blue Eyes. Jess can be convinced of anything, so it took next to nothing to convince her to go in on buying a horse for Nick. The horse, of course, of course, was actually going to be sold to some gangster types for its valuable semen, a deal that Nick busted up thanks to his penchant for sweating through his lies.

Despite his plea for another chance, Walt skipped town the next day, only stopping long enough on his way out to ask Jess to look after Nick. Could he see how perfect they are for each other, too? Somehow, the end of every episode is Nick and Jess comforting each other. I mean, I’m not complaining because they do it so well, but realistically, how much longer can we suspend our disbelief that these two people are so blind that they can’t see what’s staring each other in the face?

Sigh. And on the other end of the blind spectrum, upon hearing that CeCe’s parents were setting her up with an Indian entrepreneur, Schmdit teamed up with poor Robbie to win CeCe back…on the understanding that once all of the eligible Indian men were out of the picture, Schmidt would turn on Robbie and claim CeCe for himself. The plan, of course, went terribly and ended with the guys making complete fools of themselves in front of CeCe’s entire family, not to mention her potential date’s family. But that’s Schmidt, right? Single-minded. Again, there’s only so much longer that can go on before I will either need CeCe to change her mind, or Schmidt to find another obsession.
