Britney Spears Quits ‘The X Factor’

Singer Britney Spears won’t be returning to her post as judge on The X Factor for a second season, TV Line has shared. The 31-year-old has decided after just one season on the competition series that she plans to return to making music.

Talking to TV Guide, Spears shared that it was not an easy decision to leave the Fox show behind. “I’ve made the very difficult decision not to return for another season,” Spears stated. “Watching them up on that stage made me miss performing so much!”

Prior to Spears’ announcement that she would not be returning, Fox’s president Kevin Reilly spoke highly of the singer at the Television Critics Association’s winter press tour in Pasadena, commending her work on the show. “I think Britney did a really good job. People remain fascinated with her and always will… Maybe people were waiting for more drastic displays that never came. But pound for pound, I thought The X Factor was excellent this year. She tucked in really nicely on that bench.”

The news of Spears’ decision to depart the show does not come as surprise. Numerous reports detailed the performer’s troubles during the start of the season, and in more recent times pointed to her exit.
