Supernatural Season 8 Review “Citizen Fang” – This is One Heck of a Crap Storm

Supernatural Season 8 Episode 9 Citizen Fang

In this episode of Supernatural, called “Citizen Fang,” everyone gets way too many blasts from the past, someone loses their life, someone loses their cool and someone else shows up out of the blue.

Man, I gotta say that this is one of those times when I wish I didn’t have to post a review immediately after an episode has aired. I would LOVE to sit down and watch this one at least one more time and mull over it before try to talk about it, but since I can’t do that, I’m just going to have to do my best.

Okay so first of all, let’s talk about Benny. Y’all remember a couple weeks ago when I wrote why I might love him? Yeah, well, I’m dropping the word “might.” I think I am deeply in love with Benny. Watching him go through what he did tonight – when all he wanted was to try and make a real life for himself in a place he knew as home and with the woman who was his great-granddaughter – was kind of heartbreaking. Having to deal with the hunger, after going without it for so long in Purgatory, was hard on Benny, and now he’s fed again so it’s going to be even harder. Also, I’m thinking that Dean is probably going to decide that he has to kill his friend now, since he’ll believe there’s no way to stop a vamp who’s started feeding on love blood again. It sucks. It just plain sucks. Not just for Benny, but for Dean, too.

Now let’s talk about Sam. You know, I’ve been starting to get these wild ideas about that year he had with Amelia. Even with the few explanations and flashbacks we’ve seen, it all still seemed so unreal that I began to wonder if it was real. I started having these crazy ideas like maybe he was in Heaven that whole time and the angels were doing something with him, just as they were with Cas. But all of that changed when we actually saw Amelia. Turns out she really does exist and now she’s at least temporarily back in Sam’s life.

So overall I’d say that both brothers are in one heck of a crap storm and we have to wait more than a month to find out what’s going to happen next. Oh, winter hiatus, how I hate you so.

My favorite bits..

“Born on the Bayou” by Creedence. Awesome way to start an ep.

Aw, Benny’s working at a restaurant. Kind of cute.

“You put “mostly okay” Martin on Benny?”

“Martin, you sure you’re running on a full charge?”

“I’m not signing up for a witch hunt; I owe him more than that.”

Sam immediately asking how much time Dean needed, even as Martin was asking for Benny’s head on a platter.

Yay! Another Dean and pie reference. Been a while since we’ve seen one of those.

Dean standing there calmly talking to Benny with that knife casually hidden behind his back.

“I know it’s hard to believe, but I haven’t always been this cute and cuddly.”

Dean’s reaction to finding out that Benny is Elizabeth’s great-granddaughter.

“That half-wit was sent by my brother, and trust me my brother’s not someone you want to mess with.”

The whole conversation with Dean and Sam – Dean saying that every relationship he ever had had gone to crap, but he could trust Benny, and Sam’s “Good on you, Dean. It must be great to find someone you can finally trust.” – Ah, the angst, the man pain…it was nearly too much.

Martin getting the jump on Dean?? Seriously??

Being half-surprised that Sam didn’t knock Martin out for bringing up their dad.

They left Dean handcuffed, but close enough to something metal that he could turn into a pick? Dumbass move, guys.

“Dean, this is my fight. Are you in or are you out?”

Sam getting a text from Amelia and then just..LEAVING??

“You’re not gonna talk a lot, are ya? I’ve been dealing with crazy all day.”

Benny chopping off Desmond’s head just in the nick of time.

Benny staring long and hard at Dean’s bleeding neck. Oh boy..

“Guys like us, we don’t get a home, we don’t get a family.”
“You got Sam.”

“Amelia, you saved me.”

“Thanks for not giving up on me, brother.”
“Don’t give me a reason to.”

Dean telling Martin to find a new line of work.

Martin using Elizabeth’s cell phone to call Benny and then threatening Elizabeth. Really? And who’s supposed to be the monster here?

Really, really wanting to be the crap out of Martin for slicing Elizabeth’s neck.

Benny laying his head down on the bar and quietly apologizing to Elizabeth. Noooo!

Sam finding out that Amelia was apparently fine and dandy. Okay, seriously, WTF?

Never being so scared in all my life as when Elizabeth called Dean, while covered in blood. Please don’t let Benny be dead. Please don’t let Benny be dead. Please don’t let Benny be head.

Am I supposed to feel bad that Martin is dead? Cuz I really don’t.

Dean did what with that burner phone??? Wow. Just…wow.

Sam hanging up on Dean. Holy crap.

Sam’s shocked response to finding Amelia standing behind him.
