Don’t Trust The B—- In Apartment 23 Season 2 “Whatever It Takes…” Review

Don't Trust The B---- in Apartment 23 Season 2 Episode 5 Whatever It Takes (2)

It’s the mid-season finale of Don’t Trust The B—- In Apartment 23 and while I struggled really badly with myself on climbing on my moral high horse for this comedy, I feel that “Whatever It Takes…” sort of earned a not so stellar review.

I love Don’t Trust the B—-. I very (if ever) have anything negative to say about this dark comedy. It’s hysterical, the characters are so far out of the norm that it makes their crazy antics fun, and the writing is smart and sassy. That said, what the hell happened in “Whatever it Takes…”??

Whatever it takes, indeed! Even if the “whatever” involves drugging your friend into having sex with someone to keep your job intact, apparently that’s okay in the land of Chloe and June. We all know that Chloe isn’t the most upstanding moral person in the world and she’s slowly been pulling June into her web of crazy, but I found June’s actions to be sort of unacceptable and completely out of character.

Before I get flamed with the “this is a comedy, not a character study…”, I watch TV because of story and characters. And to have a main character do something completely out of the box without any sort of motivation throws a wrench into everything the writers have done to establish this person in the world of the show. That said, June is NOT that devious that she would roofie Chloe into sleeping with a guy! And the fact that Chloe just let June off the hook with a shrug and a “I probably would have anyway because he’s rich…” makes me disappointed in the writers. There wasn’t a different way to maybe write in some sort of rift between Chole and June and still stay with the comedy aspect? Did we really need to further Chloe’s “I don’t give a crap” attitude and try to bring June up to the moral standard from where she started?

Add to this the sad James and Dancing With The Stars story line and this is one week where Don’t Trust The B—- In Apartment 23 fell flat. Really flat. I’m pretty sad that the season will take it’s winter break on that note, I’ve come to love and look forward to more from Don’t Trust The B—–.
