‘Political Animals’ Cancelled by USA Network

Political Animals - Season 2012

Despite receiving rave reviews from critics and viewers alike, the USA Network has decided not to continue with the mini-series Political Animals mainly due to the fact it received less-than-stellar ratings, averaging about 3.2 million viewers during its six-week run.

The series from Greg Berlanti (the man behind ‘Brothers and Sisters’, ‘Everwood’ and ‘Arrow’) and Laurence Mark (‘Dreamgirls’ and ‘I, Robot’) focused on Elaine Barrish (Sigourney Weaver), a divorced, former First Lady, serving as the Secretary of State, who deals with State Department issues, while trying to keep her family together.

According to TV Line, the network had this to say about the mini-series, “We are proud of ‘Political Animals’, our mini-series that attracted critical acclaim and impacted the cultural conversation this summer. It was a pleasure to work with Greg Berlanti and Laurence Mark and a powerful cast led by Sigourney Weaver. We look forward to collaborating again with these immensely talented creatives”.

The cast of ‘Political Animals’ included Carla Gugino (‘Watchmen’), James Wolk (‘Lone Star’), Sebastian Stan (‘Once Upon a Time’), Brittany Ishibashi (‘Supernatural’), Ciaran Hinds (‘Phantom of the Opera’), Adrian Pasdar (‘Heroes’) and legendary actress Ellen Burstyn.
