‘Luther’ Season 3 Announced

The acclaimed U.K. series Luther has been given a third season order by BBC One (their home network in the U.K.).

Golden Globe winner Idris Elba, who has appeared in ‘The Big C’ and ‘The Office’ as well as box office films ‘Thor’ and ‘Prometheus’ stars as DCI John Luther, a brilliant yet troubled English police detective who is a highly charged emotional man not above stretching the law to solve a case or save a life.

According to a report at Entertainment Weekly, the third season will include four “perfectly dark, chillingly-formed episodes”, but the one big question of fans will be whether emotionless (yet viewer-favorite) Alice Morgan (Ruth Wilson from ‘The Prisoner’ and ‘Jane Eyre’) will make a return appearance or not. Alice played a key role in the first season of the series, but was only glimpsed in one episode of the second season.

The series cast has included Indira Varma (‘Human Target’), Warren Brown (the upcoming ‘Byzantium’), Paul McGann (‘Doctor Who’), Dermot Crowley (‘Babel’) and Nikki Amuka-Bird (‘Survivors’) [among others].

While there is no report on when the series will actually air in the U.K. – let alone when it will air here in the States via BBC America – production will start in the U.K. sometime this month.
