The CW has ordered three additional scripts of both of their new dramas Beauty and the Beast and Emily Owens, M.D.

While both shows have not garnered ratings like the other new CW drama ‘Arrow’, the two episodes that have aired so far of the reboot of the 1980’s classic series ‘Beauty and the Beast’ have averaged out to 2.6 million viewers – thanks in part to its lead-in ‘The Vampire Diaries’ while the new medical drama ‘Emily Owens, M.D.’ earned 1.7 million viewers in its debut last week.

In this reimagined version of the classic tale of ‘Beauty and the Beast’, Kristin Kreuk (of ‘Smallville’ fame) plays Detective Catherine Chandler, who witnessed the brutal murder of her mother by two gunmen. She would have also been killed if not for some sort of “being” who saved her life. Years later, Catherine finds a clue that leads her to the discovery of a handsome doctor named Vincent Keller (Jay Ryan from ‘Terra Nova’), presumed dead in 2002 while serving in Afghanistan. For the last ten years, Vincent has kept a low profile in order to hide the fact that when he becomes angry, he turns into a beast…the same beast that saved Catherine’s life years ago.

As for ‘Emily Owens, M.D.’, the series follows the life of Emily Owens (Mamie Gummer from ‘Off the Map’), who is a first-year intern at Denver Memorial Hospital. Her med-school crush Will Collins (Justin Hartley from ‘Smallville’) also works there but on her first day she is stunned when she learns her high school nemesis Cassandra Kopelson (newcomer Aja Naomi King) also works there. Emily is not only the new kid once again, but her adult life is also just as awkward as high school.

The next new episode of ‘Emily Owens, M.D.’ will air tonight on The CW at 9/8c while the next new episode of ‘Beauty and the Beast’ will air this coming Thursday on 9/8c. [Source: Deadline]
